What is TOIS?

TOIS is Therapy Oriented Internet-based Special teaching.
TOIS is a form of anxiety treatment.
TOIS treats (school) refusal behaviour in two consecutive steps:

1. learning - and personality diagnostics
2. educational therapy

TOIS understands avoidance behaviour as a reaction to personal experiences. Thus, the approach of TOIS is systemic and usually involves family, former schools, etc.
Unlike avoidance behaviour and learning disabilities, truancy is nottreated with the TOIS method.
Method - TOIS is based on a restriction, an artificial and temporary limitation of the communication between client and teacher, the so called (communication) channel reduction.
From the organizational point of view it is a combination of internet-based 1:1 lessons, face-to-face–lessons and e-learning.
Aim - TOIS is not a special school. The aim of TOIS is to break up avoidance strategies and to reconnect and take part in the regular curriculum.
Duration - approx. three to a maximum of six months
Clients - children and teenagers who continuously avoid or refuse school, perhaps with comorbid disorders (please compare with exclusion criteria and typical disorders).
