TOIS - structure, technology and software

The students meet the TOIS teachers in the internet on a regular basis according to their schedule. The student can be at home, in his shared apartment or with his foster parents.
The teacher can see the student on his screen, whereas the student only sees the teacher in exceptional cases.
A TOIS lesson is between 30 and 60 minutes long.

Technology and software

TOIS uses two programs at the same time: one program for voice and video transmission or for conference circuits for more participants or observers.  Secondly, TOIS employs a remote program to transmit the student’s activities on his or her computer to the teacher’s screen in real-time.  This way, the teacher can see what the student is doing and watch him at all times.

TablerechnerThe students and the teachers use tablet PCs and a second screen. The TOIS student writes on his screen like on a page of an exercise book and only uses the keyboard in exceptional cases. On the second screen the student can see the teaching material.

Student and teacher communicate verbally via a headset. Images are transmitted via camera.
A quick internet connection is essential for a smooth data transmission (approx. 6000 kb/ sec).
